Saint Sulpice

Saint Sulpice is a tranquil village in the Causse du Quercy parc naturel régional. The village is perched on the slopes of the limestone valley of the River Célé. 

Since the 12th century it has been the seat of the Hébrard family, overlords of a considerable stretch of the valley, although only fragments of their substantial chateau now remain. The local council, under the leadership of the Mayor, Monique Delfour, works together to maintain links with neighbouring communities, to arrange communal feasts and events, to keep up the local footpaths, etc. The simple village church, which has been sympathetically restored, is open every day, and the Ecole Maternelle serves four local villages.

Local Shopping
In July and August the village campsite has a small shop and cafe/snack bar; throughout the year baker’s vans come three days a week and a butcher’s van once a week. The two nearest villages are a pleasant bicycle ride along the valley: Marcilhac (4km) and Brengues (6km in the other direction) both have bakeries, restaurants, grocery stores and some postal facilities. The nearest towns are Cajarc (14km), Figeac (30km), Gramat (30k) and Cahors (50km), all of which have supermarkets, butchers, newsagents etc as well as a fine selection of patisseries. There are many local markets (details are provided in the house).

The River
The river is a three-minute walk from the cottage. In summer it is wonderful for swimming, fishing and canoeing. The rest of the year it provides fun coarse fishing for chub, barbel, pike and the occasional trout or carp. There is also a swimming pool in the village open during July and August.

Walking
This is an ideal base for ramblers, bird watchers and wild flower lovers, and there are plenty of beautiful walks – for the energetic and for the less energetic – many of which start in the village and some of them circular. We leave a guide book in the cottage so that you can take full advantage of them. Some of these follow parts of the Compostella pilgrim route (GR 651 bis) which passes through the village.
